We work closely with the architect and client to help develop innovative solutions if, initially, the baseline architectural design proposals do not meet the BRE daylight, sunlight or overshadowing criteria. Projects include small extensions to large-scale commercial masterplan developments. Our team has worked with some of the largest national and international developers and architectural practices, as well as individual residential clients. Our service includes technical presentation and negotiations with local planning officers as well as advice on and representation at Planning Committees and Public Inquiries.
We follow the Building Research Establishment (BRE) “Site Layout Planning For Daylight and Sunlight: A Guide to Good Practice” using the IES Virtual Environment software, which produces 3D computer generated models of the proposed and existing site conditions to test the external and internal daylight factors, sunlight availability statistics and year-round shadow plots.
